Nepal Quake Relief Drive and Fundraiser at Radha Madhav Dham

This weekend, in partnership with NRN USA (Non Resident Nepali Association), Radha Madhav Dham hosted a donation drive and fundraiser in their temple grounds. Several hundred members of the Austin Indian Community came forward to help with monetary donations, medical supplies and clothing to assist their brothers and sisters in Nepal who have lost everything in the devastating 7.8 earthquake of last week.

All day Saturday and Sunday, the Nepali community came to help sort and organize the items so donations can urgently be shipped to Nepal via containers.  The youth contributed in their own way, making and serving lemonade to every one present.  At 7:00pm, Saturday May 2, the community gathered to hold a candlelight vigil and offer two minutes of silent prayers in remembrance of the victims.

On Sunday May 3, during the Community Worship, Ashay Ajgaonkar, a managing member of Radha Madhav Dham presented a check of $11,000, representing last week’s collection, to Krishna GC of NRN USA.

On behalf of NRN, Krishna shared stories of devastation and informed community of the urgent needs facing the villagers living in the outlying rural areas of Kathmandu. He also shared the relief steps being taken by NRN who have already sent teams of doctors, nurses and volunteers from US, Australia to provide the hands-on assistance where it is most needed. “We feel blessed and thankful for being a part of the Radha Madhav Dham’s community and for the show of support we have received from all our brothers and sisters here in Austin who have come forward to help the Nepalese people”, said Krishna in conclusion of his heartfelt speech.
