Once, Sant Tukaram returned home with sugar cane as alms.  He thought that both he and his wife could share it by splitting it in half and it would take care of their meal for the day.  So, he brought the sugar cane and gave it to his wife.  His wife, who always used to fight and quarrel with him, took the sugar cane and smacked it against her husband’s back.  The sugar cane broke in half.  Tukaram thought, “Good that it broke.  We both can have half each.”
